Members endorse Turkmenistan’s WTO observer status

At a meeting of the General Council, World Trade Organization (WTO) members agreed to grant Turkmenistan observer status in the organization. Turkmenistan, a state in Central Asia with a population of about 6.2 million, became the last former Soviet republic to establish a formal relationship with the WTO.

ADB signs $500 million loan to strengthen Turkmenistan’s electricity supply, boost regional power trade

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Turkmenistan signed a $500 million loan to strengthen Turkmenistan’s transmission network, improve the reliability of the country’s power supply, and increase electricity exports to neighboring countries. The signing was conducted at the sidelines of the 17th Ministerial Conference on CAREC held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

ADB President reaffirms support to CAREC at 17th Ministerial Conference

Asian Development Bank President Takehiko Nakao reaffirmed ADB’s support for CAREC and announced $2 billion in new assistance for regional projects in CAREC countries in 2018.

ADB approves first full country partnership strategy for Turkmenistan

The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Board of Directors has endorsed a 5-year Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Turkmenistan to support regional cooperation and economic diversification during 2017–2021. This is ADB’s first full CPS with Turkmenistan since the country joined ADB in 2000.
